Did I think It would be easy?

Thats probably a great question to ask myself.  I sit here thinking about some of the difficulties I’ve been facing with getting this business going, but when I reflect, I don’t think I ever thought it would be easy.. or did I?

I’ve been trying for over a week to get the website layout loaded into my hosting account on GoDaddy, but couldn’t get it to load the page correctly.  After researching the problems, I found out that I won’t be able to host my site using the basic hosting services.  Since my application and site are so large and have complex pieces, I needed to purchase either a dedicated server or a virtual dedicated server.   I went with the Virtual solution in the end, and of course, add that new cost to the ever growing list of costs that are above my estimates!

I’m also still waiting for the approval from Apple to be approved as an IOS developer (as a business).  I expect to hear a positive response by the end of the week, and once that happens, the app build will begin.

All in all, things are going about as I’ve expected.  Even with the delays, cost increases and normal problems, things are going about how I expected them to.  Now the next area I have to focus on are the expectations I’ve set for my company.

I’ll let you know how that challenge goes next time!

Starting to pick up the pace…

So, I’m full steam ahead right now on my company.  In fact everything is official!  My company was opened up off-shore in Dubai and is called CTB-Apps.

Yup - thats my company

My company’s website is up, and you should definitely check that out:

Now that I’ve gotten that headache out of the way, I’m fully focused on creating my first mobile application.  I’m mostly doing this for the iPad and iPhone, but I will also release the apps I make on Android and Blackberry devices.

Let me know what you think or if you have suggestions on how to add better content, I’d love to hear the ideas.  I’ve also set up new twitter accounts and facebook fan pages for it, so I’ll be jumping all over the social media outlets more often.

With that, I’ve also been working on my first app, which deals with Fantasy Sports.  I will be making an app for each of the 4 major American sports (NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL).  The website for that is almost complete, and as I found out with opening up a company, there are many obstacles to overcome each day.  Every day has brought up a new problem or challenge, but in the end, the hard work will be worth it.

First mobile app and website being produced

Here's a Sneak Peak at the first App and Website under development

I was hoping to have everything ready by 1 April, but its not looking like that will happen.  I’m not to upset, because I really want to be sure when I launch that the product I put out is top notch.  Sure I’ll make updates, but I want a product that adds features, not that needs to work out bugs!  So now I’m looking at a launch date of somewhere in the 15 April to 1 May timeframe.

Thanks again for stopping by – I’ll be posting again next week!

Starting up a new company??

I’m in the process of starting up my first company!  Exciting times I know, but also a bit hectic.  One thing I’ve come to find out is that this is a task that requires more time than I expected.

Creating Apps??

Actually first let me explain that I’m currently developing an application for the iPhone and iPad.  While I was “wasting away” in Iraq and Afghanistan this last summer, I used my iPad for hours on end.  I started thinking of different apps that could be useful and figured that I could create these myself.

I then took a months vacation in Italy and one day when I was floating in the Mediterranean down in Positano, I said to myself, I need to start focusing on how I can really start to build a better life.  A life that could include me taking several months of vacation in Italy (haha).   Anyways, I went back to work re-energized and was focused that I’d start spending my spare time working towards that goal.  I began planning out what I wanted the app to do and what kind of website and database would be needed to support this effort.

So that brings me to where I am now; with an idea, a blue-print to create this and drive to make it happen.  But I’m stuck a bit.  I’m weighing the pros and cons of opening a company in my homeland of the US, or opening this up as a company in Dubai in the Free-Trade Zone.

There are trade-offs for both scenarios, with Dubai’s biggest draw being that my profits are 100% tax free!  Of course, I can’t write of any of the expenses that come with starting/having a company, and that is the big draw of opening up in the US.  In the US, I can write of company expense on tax returns vs just having to use my own money for these expenses in Dubai.

So if anyone reading this blog has any insight or suggestions for me, I’d be thrilled to hear them.

Hello world!

Welcome to my blog of my mindless musings.  I’m just getting things set up, so please bear with me as I get the site adjusted just how I want it.  I plan on updating when I feel I have something to share with everyone.  For now, most of my posts will be about a variety of topics: travel, work, sports, music, movies etc.

Once I get the hang of things, I plan on creating a few more blogs.  I’m ambitiously hoping to create separate blogs for travel, sports and maybe even one for fantasy sports.  I’ll link all the blogs together, and this site will remain as my main musings page.  But that is way down the road.

For now, thanks for stopping by.  I hope you will enjoy what I have to say!
